Matthew's Story
Managing Director, MadeWithData · PhD (Datanomics) · Non-Executive Director
Matthew builds the economic systems that commercialise knowledge - inside firms, between them, and across their markets.
His PhD founded datanomics: a formal framework for how knowledge assets are created, enriched, valued, and traded. The research produced the first formal production function for knowledge value by joining Shannon's communication theory with platform economics to explain how value accrues to data as it moves from raw signal toward actionable knowledge. Now he applies that to AI systems for MadeWithData's clients, so they can predict what knowledge trades are worth, when to deploy AI, and what governance structures prevent their knowledge markets from failing. Matthew's work has been published in Elsevier's Agricultural Systems, Springer book chapters, and peer-reviewed journals and conferences across four continents.

Matthew now leads MadeWithData, where that theory operates commercially.
"I started MadeWithData to open up the world's knowledge trading economy, one ecosystem at a time."
Matthew typically works directly with executive sponsors, enabling them to lead operations that surface knowledge-based value creation, so they can determine where to invest, what's lying dormant and what's leaking to competitors. Matthew also holds a Senior Lectureship and Research Fellowship at the University of New England, where he teaches executives and MBA leaders to deploy AI as an economic and governance instrument rather than a technology project. Matthew also sits on boards in education and technology governance as a Non-Executive Director.
Matthew's professional background spans defence-grade aerospace engineering, neurosurgical navigation, global micro-finance infrastructure, agritech platform design, and enterprise AI transformation across Western Europe, North America, and Australia. The common thread that has always existed is: technical systems generating more value than their operators know how to capture, govern, or trade.
That is the problem MadeWithData exists to solve.

What this unlocks for you.
MadeWithData is called in because knowledge markets have failed quietly.
The symptoms were visible - AI investments that don't compound, data strategies that describe infrastructure rather than predict ROI, executive decisions made on instinct where they could be made on mechanism. The cause is structural: value is being defined by what knowledge can be sold for, rather than what options it generates.
MadeWithData applies datanomics to correct that. The engagement begins with a structured diagnostic: mapping where knowledge is created, where it is impaired, and where it leaks. You decide what follows. Typically it includes a governance and commercialisation framework built specifically for your knowledge architecture, not adapted from a generic consulting playbook.
The outcomes are commercial and measurable: clients have used the framework to rebuild business models ahead of Series A, stabilise national data platforms facing market failure, and redesign supply chains. The theory is academic in origin and commercial in application.
If your business runs on knowledge, the question is not whether to commercialise it. It is whether you have the framework to do it before someone else does.
